"Community Forums on Public Education Revenue Initiatives"

Saving California Communities and the Associated Students, University of California Davis (ASUCD) are sponsoring forums on two proposed initiatives that voters may be asked to approve in November. Each of these ballot initiatives seeks to raise revenue for California's public education system. May 21 and June 4 at 7:30 p.m. on the UC Davis campus.

WHO: Associated Students, University of California Davis (ASUCD) and Saving California Communities
WHAT: Sandy Escobedo of the Advancement Project will present information on "Our Children, Our Future," a ballot initiative sponsored by civil rights attorney Molly Munger and supported by the California PTA.
WHEN: Monday, May 21 at 7:30 p.m.
WHERE: 206 Olson Hall, UC Davis campus.

"I'm pleased to be part of an event that encourages dialogue about the challenges our state faces at the community level," said Ms. Escobedo. "Forums of this nature are the epitome of direct, participatory democracy."

"California's communities must be supported through stable revenue streams for basic, essential services. Education is foundational among these." said Susan Lovenburg, president of the Davis School Board and a founding member of Saving California Communities.  "In these two forums UC Davis students and Davis community members will come together to understand voter options and join voices for successful solutions."

Open to the public and will feature an audience question and answer period.

[UPDATE: POSTPONED - As the campaign for the Governor's revenue measure (Schools and Local Public Safety Protection Act) campaign was unable to provide a speaker for Monday, we will be postponing the forum which will focus on the revenue initiative sponsored by Governor Jerry Brown originally planned for June 4, also at 7:30 p.m. at Olson Hall on the UC Davis campus. Given that students are entering into their final weeks of school, it seems unlikely we can reschedule before the fall.  We will keep you posted.]
